Jeff Vanderstelt: In Community & On Mission

In the video below, Jeff Vanderstelt, pastor of Soma Church in Tacoma, Washington, talks about the “missional communities” that play an integral role in the life of their church.

Missional communities are the primary way we connect with others and live our lives on mission. These smaller groups of people (10-20) provide an opportunity to know others and be known within Soma. Through these relationships, we mutually challenge and encourage one another to truly believe our Identity in Christ and live life in Rhythms that show the world who God truly is.

Each missional community has identified their unique mission within the larger community and meets regularly to eat, learn, pray and be together on mission, living out the Gospel in real and tangible expressions.

While I may differ with some of the things Soma says and does, I appreciate their desire to obey the commands of Jesus and live out the implications of the Gospel in everyday life.  Specifically, they are striving to truly live in community as the family of God and take the Gospel to the world as people sent by Christ.

The video is compelling.  Check it out:
